Lecturer: Thomas Hendrickson
If you were backpacking through Italy during the Roman Republic, the language you’d want to know would not be Latin, but Oscan. Ancient Italy was a patchwork of languages, some almost like Latin and some completely foreign to it. This workshop, hosted by the Classics Dept. and Dartmouth Classical Society, and led by Prof. Hendrickson, will explore the languages of ancient Italy and what happened to them. We will also learn the basics of Oscan and read some of what remains.
